DIVORCE MEDIATION

Mediation: What is it?
Mediation is a no-fault process for couples to resolve disputes and reach agreements that are in the best interests of the family.

How long will it take?
It depends on the individuals, but on an average, mediation takes six two hour sessions. The sessions are scheduled once a week or once every other week.

What if I don't like the agreement?
The goal of mediation is to find a mutually acceptable resolution to the issues involved in dissolving a marriage. Nothing will be forced on either party.

What does a Mediator do?
A Mediator is an impartial person who assists the couple in reaching a fair agreement that has no victims.

Do I need an Attorney?
You will need an Attorney to draft and file the initial papers that begin the divorce process, to present the final agreement to the court and have the judgment entered, and for advice along the way.

What are the benefits of Mediation?
  1. Mediation can promote communication and reduce conflict. This is especially important when children are involved.
  2. Mediation can usually be completed in less time than litigation, and it is often less costly.
  3. Mediation is conducted in an informal setting where the parties feel more secure and are more in control of their lives.
